April 25, 2022 - Fumigation order

 Week 35

We had many miracles that professed themselves in the form of food this week, but we know it is the result of us working hard and members showing their love and gratitude. We received a free hamburger, a free waffle, and lots of food from members. so don't worry mom, I'm not starving in this area!

This week we had 2 miracles with less active members. One was that a less active member helped us with an idea to find new people to teach and she referred someone herself. The other is that a joven who with her family hasn't assisted since before the pandemic, came to church yesterday. At 12, she was the only one from her family who came to church and she came with members who she probably doesn't know super well. But that's how strong her desire was to come to church. And we were delightfully surprised when another person we are teaching came to church too!

This week we also got to spend more time with a sweet sister in the stake. She has so Many great stories and we were able to do some service for her! She taught us to look at our challenges with love.

We took lots of pictures this week because we knew we had cambios, but we are both staying in Montelimar for another transfer! By the end of this transfer I will have served half of my mission in this stake haha sorry I haven't had many Costa Rician adventures.

Oh and we woke up Tuesday and had all these little bugs crawling on the floor. My companion was scared of them, so I had to go around with a milk carton killing them all. Wednesday they luckily came to fumigate our apartment.

D&C 18:10 "Remember the worth of souls is great in the sight of God;"
What is the worth of a soul to God? I have found a good place to start is with what He gave to save one soul, and all our souls. Our Heavenly Father loves us so much and created a perfect plan so that we could be happy!

April 18, 2022 - Feliz día de Pascua!

 Week 34

I hope everyone enjoyed Pascua yesterday. I am thankful that this week I could study even more about the last week of the life of Christ and understand what he has done for us.

After my interview with President this week, I learned that it's not just us who think this area is hard. The members are so nice and great and the people we are teaching are great too, it is just hard to find the people who are really ready to follow Christ.

This week we saw that the Lord was preparing us to share his message with people so that when we came in intact with them we would know the message we were going to share. And that message is Christ. This week we had so many great first lessons even though so many people where out of town and canceled on us haha We had one that was very special. It was with a mother and her two kids who accepted us into their house on the third visit. This final visit really was a miracle because we had tried to go to this house 2 times before but this sister was never home. This past week being the Semana Santa meant there was even less of a chance. But we had to try and share a message with her one final time, so we said a prayer knowing that whether she answered or not it was the will of God. And she answered! And we're going back in the coming week!

We also had a few other great lessons: One with a man who has such a strong desire to follow Christ.  One with an 18 year old who really just wanted to get to know us and our church better. And one with a less active member family whose daughter hasn't been baptized, and they share such great insights about the greatest event in history.

Other than that we learned the traditions in Costa Rica for the Semana Santa: EVERYONE goes to the beach! Which means no one is in the city of Montelimar haha but they're all back now!

Juan 10:
3.To him the porter openeth; and the sheep hear his voice: and he calleth his own sheep by name, and leadeth them out.
4. And when he putteth forth his own sheep, he goeth before them, and the sheep follow him: for they know his voice.
11.I am the good shepherd: the good shepherd giveth his life for the sheep.

Do you know His voice? If He called to you would you be able to recognize His voice?
My companion and I loved talking about this with people this week and we are so excited to strengthen our own ability as well as that of others to hear His voice.

April 11, 2022- are mangos suppose to make your lips buzz?

 Week 33

I loved the support we get from the members in our ward. This last week we had two lessons cancel and a member was accompanying us to both. But it turned out to be great because we walked her home and she talked about how she wants to go out and find people with us. She also referred someone that was receiving lessons years ago. And when we called this person  they said we were an answer to their prayers. Really we are so grateful that this member is following her prompting to help in the obra del Señor.

We are doing lots of contacting in the streets because now we can! And so we are improving each day. This past week we saw a few miracles as we contacted a member who lost contact with the church after moving countries. Then after trying to do a return visit that we couldn't do, we were near a park we aren't usually near at this hour and we met a cute girl and her dog! Our last miracle was yesterday as we were walking. We walked past someone and we both knew we needed to turn around and go talk to him. We gave him a pamphlet and then asked if he wanted to learn more about Christ. He said yes! Our interaction was super simple but that's really what we want to share with people. We want to teach about Christ.

We also had a very sweet lesson where we watched the 20 minute Joseph Smith restoration movie and afterward she understood it all haha and even came with us to a baptism. Sadly she is moving soon but she is great and will learn from us until she goes.

4 For whatsoever is born of God overcometh the world: and this is the victory that overcometh the world, even our faith.
5 Who is he that overcometh the world, but he that believeth that Jesus is the Son of God? (1 John 5:4-5)
Just as Christ overcame the world, we need to as well. And I know it's not easy especially because Christ ultimately gave His life to overcome the world. Luckily, He gave His life so we don't have to suffer as He did for us. That's why I loved reading the words to the hymn While of These Emblems We Partake.
I love the translation for Spanish! This is how we can overcome the world!!
"La Santa Cena, al tomar, a Cristo quiero recordar, mostrándole de corazón que limpio soy por Su perdón."

Haha and oh ya we had exchanges this week and a member gave us some mangos. First, if someone knows how to cut a mango really well, let me know. But after eating the mango our lips were buzzing. Luckily, in the morning everything was fine, but really is that normal?

April 4, 2022 - a very special event

 Week 32

This week was great and filled with many spiritual conferences.

First, on Tuesday as we were teaching our first lesson with someone they asked us about our special event we were having this weekend. After a moment of confusion we realized they were asking us about General Conference! Well Sadly later in the week we lost contact, which is normal with everyone having work. So we hope to get in contact soon and see if they could watch conference.

Wednesday we had a great zone conference where we talked a lot about goal setting and plans. We also had a great lesson that night. We are teaching the boyfriend of a member, so the lessons in that sense are a little different. But it's so much fun teaching this family and hearing all the different insights of those who are members as they try to explain to the boyfriend.

We also had a great lesson with a joven we are teaching. It was so sweet to be able to help her write a letter to her mom about how she wanted to be baptized and wants her mom there. What was so sweet is that she wants to be baptized to be able to really take the sacrament. It's amazing how she already can see the power and importance of the sacrament.

This weekend a member was nice enough to invite us and any people we are teaching over to their house because Sunday's conference wouldn't be broadcasted in our ward building.  We ended up getting two people to come watch conference which was really exciting.

"Cada persona en la tierra es linaje de Dios, pero ser llamados hijos de Dios significa mucho, mucho más." - Elder Andersen
I am so grateful we got to watch conference this weekend and look forward to putting the counsel of the servants of the Lord in practice so that I am actively making the choice to go home to Him.
