Hola! Buenas!
This week in reading the Book of Mormon I read this verse about prayer:
2 Nephi 32:9 "but behold, I say unto you that ye must pray always, and not faint; that ye must not perform any thing unto the Lord save in the first place ye shall pray unto the Father in the name of Christ, that he will consecrate thy performance unto thee, that thy performance may be for the welfare of thy soul" We pray A LOT everyday on the mission but really it's because we want and need the Lord's blessing in all that we do! God is our Heavenly Father, and just like our earthly parents, I'm sure he loves giving advice. I think it's probably the best advice we'll ever get!
This week I experienced a lot of new things. I had my first intercambios, first rejections, and gave my first talk!
Intercambios! I went on exchanges with the sister training leaders in our district. I spent 24 hours with Hermana Roberts in Moravia and it was so fun! I swear we had so many exchange miracles. First in contacting over the phone, almost all the references we contacted answered and set up the date to do a study the following week. So great! Then we got ice cream and on the way there and back we did street contacting. We met our goal of talking to 3 people. We walked to 4 and even gave one of them a Book of Mormon! So great and then we had to run away from a crazy guy who we were pretty sure was drunk because he was slurring all his words in Spanish.
Next, our rejections haha and for me they're probably more funny than they should be. We were calling a number list of possible people in our area that no one knew who they were and it was so funny. One person we called gave us the information of her mom who is a member and then when we tried to ask her she pretended she couldn't hear and then hung up haha. Then with others they wouldn't say anything when they answered the phone so we would say "buenas tardes hablamos con___ somos las misioneras de la Iglesia de Jesucristo de los Santos de los Ultimos Días'' then a moment of silence would follow and they would hang up. Haha it's kind of sad but we couldn't get over the fact that these people were really trying to avoid the missionaries. But we did have some contacts come out of it so 😅
I gave my first talk in sacrament meeting this week. I know I have only been here about 3 weeks and they're already having me give a talk in Spanish haha but hey it actually went really well so I guess now I know I can do it if I have time to prepare. I guess we'll see what happens when I don't.
My favorite miracle of the week came in the form of a relative of our neighbor. It was after intercambios when I was back in Tibas and I had this goal to try to initiate a conversation a day with another person. Well, it was the end of the night and we were walking back from the activity we were at and I still hadn't done it. God provides a way! As we got back to our house, this neighbor was basically right on our porch because our houses are so close. We spent 40 minutes talking with them and we gave them a book of Mormon. They also spoke English which was another miracle. Setting goals and having God be a part of them is such a powerful thing.
That's all for this week! And my mission is on a Facebook fast which includes messengers until the end of October. So sorry if I'm a few weeks late in responding to those messages haha
Mucho amor,
Hermana Warburton
